New Flame

An everlasting burn

I lost her

At a time I let pass

I packed up

threw her in the trash

She was clever, but scared

of everything she didn’t know

The world suffocated thoughts

that never had chance to grow

You didn’t find me

You simply saw

a broken smile

as crooked as your own

We shared that bitter

unapologetic zest

Make no apologies for the

saddening ripple effect

Jubilant breaks of jurisdictions

made by orthodox Christians

Taking roots and ripping

Showered in bouquets smiling

My love, he’s exciting

Ocean eyes, so inviting

Never speak an unnecessary thought

because I already know

We have all the pieces

Time will teach us to sew

Dedicated devotion

to the lost strand of

hair that floats freely

Flailing in the wind

Tickling my ear

Reaching around

Wobbly confidence

Uncovering red

nervous cheeks

A giggle I’d never heard

escaped from within

a now changing mind

Curious what you hold

inside those blue eyes

Of course

I knew

even from afar

you love hard

true

and you know

who you are
