My Person

A Poem

The touch of your skin

makes me feel at home

the sound of your voice

let’s me know, I am not alone

Even though my brain is failing me

you have stood by this craziness

If you asked me, I would have set you free

But you would rather uplift your family

and love me for me

I have pushed people away

and that is at my dismay

but he is my person

and I will keep him at bay

Until we are old and gray

when it is judgment day

all I will be able to say

I have earned my wings today

I have loved you all the way

my heart you will always stay

our souls will continue on, faraway
