My Husband

Southern Sweet Tea

He is a kiss in the summer wind.

The rise in the mercury.

All things Southern, the season of Summer.

Intense. Hot to handle but still beautiful

when the day is ended.

A crisp blue sky, one puffed cloud floating by.

A rainstorm, torrential and scary.

Cracking lightning, flooding the streets.

The sunrise to bring on the day, the sunset to end everything.

The weeping willow bowing its head, the

lightning bug I want to catch and put in the jar.

Cornbread in the kitchen its smell waking up the lazy Sunday air.

The stain of strawberries on my lips, the cool lake to

drown in or stay afloat on.

The heat that makes me sweat.

Ice tea with sugar floating to the bottom of a stirred glass,

tingling my lips.

Tinkle of wind chimes that lulls me to sleep and

whispers low I love you and rattles my cage

to get up and go inside and make love all

night long with soaked cotton sheets, while

the gardenias wither, exhume their perfume to encase us.
