My Heart Is Like Water
It reminds me of rainy days and grandma’s kisses.
My heart is like water
It flows between shores and holds up an entire island
It finds itself in small cracks deep in Brooklyn where flowers learn to grow
It slips in between fingers and fosters forehead kisses
It is satin, smooth and secure yet mute and soft
My heart is like water
It reminds me of rainy days and grandma’s kisses
Where the best hot chocolate is the one that overflows in the microwave
Boiling in the heat, settling in the cold. Always tasting just a little bit more loved.
My heart is like water
It boils into volcanoes and often thunders at night
Attaches to cloudy days and rain boots
It finds laughter in kids jumping in puddles and rainbows as it evaporates
My heart is like water
A waterfall rushing over cliffs to oceans of freedom
It communicates through a language with no words
Saturates in moments that end in tears and sweats
And stories that end in skinny dipping and saltwater lavender cleanses
My heart is like water
It feels itself through life, taking shape of containers of love.
About the Creator
Jamerly De La Cruz
Writing is release, love, clarity, escape, and scripture. In this space, I am sharing pieces of me kept under pillows, between locks, and ripped out pages. These are my stories of laughter, joy, open wounds, and un-healing bruises.
