As time has pass
Father's day approaches at last
I look at life & what I've gone through
I can't help but wonder if it happens with you
To compare advice from you & mama
To show me how men deal with drama
To give me the help that I felt I needed
When the entirety of me being was depleted
Now I look back at my life
How you & mama dealt with the strife
The good the bad & all of its toils
You & granny found time to make me spoiled
I knew that things really changed
When the day came & you walked with a cane
Superman's walk was now with a limp
But you continued your mission without a dip
Setting the example for your sons
Making sure your wife could overcome
The trials that would lie ahead
If the time came when you were dead
As time would grow & you better
Superman prove to be tougher than leather
What none of us knew
Was the plan God had for you
He had to call you home
Despite our tears, it's where you belong
But you already laid the foundation
For your boys to be men from the Prosper Station
As I embark on birthday number 30
I wonder if life would be more sturdy
If I had you everyday
To talk about a real man's way
The way a man would handle things
From love, to work, to church, family
I would the same question twice
To compare yours & mama's advice
But physically you are not here
But there have been men left for different tiers
For the family man the Uncle Jr, Uncle puddings was for the single
Gary talks quite a bit, showed in crowds how to mingle
Kevin showed us how, to embrace the artist that were are
Never let someone else set the mark for your own bar
To finish this out for Father's day
The last person paved the way
She no man, but never fret
Mama made sure we didn't forget
Forget the time that we had
Forget the feelings, good & bad
Sometimes the message was so raw
But we never forget the man we saw
As I drove yesterday, & the music started to play
All of a sudden crying was my emotional choice
Because the is to celebrate & I couldn't remember your voice
As I drove down the Avenue
The only thing I knew to do
To feed the distance & kill the hunger
I played a little Stevie Wonder
Thank you dad for memories
& I always thank God for giving you to me.
