My Eternal Sea

Dried Up

Dried up.

Thirsty for something that seems impossible.

The drought has brought death to this dusty place.

A cloud brings shade.

One single droplet falls.

A kiss in a barren land,

A small drop in the bucket,

But it wasn’t the last.

Trickles dripped down.

It felt warm.

The first few drops just float atop the surface.

Dancing like a mirage.

The cracked earth worn from the exposure lay there begging for one more drop to taste.

Two drops

Three drops.

More, he wanted from the cloud.

For he knew not how long she would stay.

Sometimes the storm can only last so long.

A cloud that drifts away.

But sometimes the storm can rain for days.

And light the night up like the Fourth of July.

For every drop made him more malleable.

More Alive.

He wanted this storm to consume him.

To never leave.

He felt connected as the cloud slowly showed herself more and more.

A storm was coming.

A change from the rigid world that shaped him.

It fills him with something he hasn’t felt in a long time.

The once barren rivers now flow with passion.

The next morning life returns to the once dead desert.

A flower here and a blossom there.

How long can this last?

How long will the rivers flow to the brim?

Will he once again shrivel up and dry out in this wasteland.

The desert says:

I don’t want to wait.

I want a monsoon.

I want a flood.

I want a tsunami.

Because in your shade I feel comfort.

And when you fall down, I feel it. When you turn to rain I relish in it.

From far above you come to me.

And with each drop we make a sea.

So I can cradle your Sea in my barren desert.

To be the seabed that holds you every day as I look towards the sun.

To be embraced,

No longer baking beneath it but protected by the warmth of you.

Land and water connected.

Body and Mind exalted.

A beautiful seclusion.

You and I.
