More Than You'll Ever Know...

A Poem

More than you'll ever know...

I remember the first time you opened your eyes.

So questioning, so wide you stared right into me.

I promised you there and then as the morning sun began to rise.

I would protect you forever and love you for eternity.

For as long as I could I've done all that I can...

To teach you, comfort you and lead as an example of a man.

In the still of the night, in the midst of working day...

I would come running for you and I would say...

My precious daughter, I'm always here.

No matter how far that I go.

So do not ever shed a tear.

I love you more than you'll ever know.

As fate was to have it you have been burdened with health.

I could try so endlessly to explain how I wish I could have taken it all myself.

For so much was put upon you at such a young and tender age.

Never did you let it get to you and fly into rage.

Your strength with hospital visits so inspiring to see.

Without realising it was you protecting me.

The first injection so heartbreaking I still feel the tear in my eye.

As my I caught my breath on the question "why?"

Before I knew it you were in control, so young yet so old.

Showing such a wise and intelligent caring soul.

Still more obstacles were to come, more troubles were to show...

I was to become more proud of you than you will ever know.

The night when you finally broke down when I was applying your cream.

It was like your body opened up and I heard your soul scream.

Your life of constant medication and regulation wasn't the same.

With your skin bleeding and on fire you wanted me to promise you again.

For the first time, I could not protect you or make it go away.

I felt like a lost frightened child who didn't know what to do or say.

I stared into your teary eyes and held you so tight.

I promised all things must pass one day you will be alright.

I am so sorry I cannot change things.

But I will hold you until the feeling goes.

My precious daughter... how I love you.

I love you...

More than you will ever know.
