Monsters

Poetry

Monsters haven't disappeared

they've nothing but evolved.

We no longer fear

what's under our beds

but instead

whats in our heads.

They are ruthless

and cruel

and rejoice at the end of a life

Though it means the end of theirs.

For they are parasites-

feasting on our fears.

They appear small

like a whisper from inside

wishing us only harm

for they enjoy our pain

crave it.

need it.

To them we are a game

and a weapon

and the target.

They'll stop at nothing

to end a life

because that's all they know.

They haunt mirrors

and once sweet dreams

clouding what's there

with what they see

horrible disappointment

forced self hatred

Slowly

but surely

they rip the heart apart

taking what is beautiful

and making it in the dark

monsters

-Don't let the Monster win.
