Monster

How long have you been there?

Lying in the corner of the darkened room. You see it there. Watching you, waiting, lingering. It knows your true feelings, fears, desires, and wishes. You see the glow, the beating and the pulsing. You can hear it in your ears drowning out other sounds. It whispers, almost ghostly.

Calling you over to the corner. That vile monster leering at you. Creatures watching your every move. You hear shackles, chains and cages rattling from everywhere. There’s no escape. You're stuck in a dark, cold room with no door and a large window with dark trees scratching the glass to get in. You lie to yourself and say you’re not afraid.

You call for someone, anyone to help you. The creatures just laugh at your fear. They whisper to you, “Can you hear me?” Finally you collapse. You try to drown out the sounds by telling yourself it’s not real. Suddenly all goes quiet until all you hear is a loud beating. Realizing all the beating, chains, and shackles rattling was your monster of a heart trying to get its other half.

About the Creator

Emily Valdez

Some of my posts are from when I was full of teen angst. I wrote mostly through the roller coaster of a relationship like all teens have at one point. Some other stuff is newer and less dark. Hope you give it all a chance. Happy reading.
