Mold With Me

Poetry for Me

Lean into me

The feel of your head against my chest and your hair across the palm of my hand

Tell me about your day as I wrap my arms around you

Tell me your secrets as our stories mix together, until we can no longer tell whose experiences belong to who

Fill me with life

Be my joy, but allow me to find some in myself

Travel with me

Learn with me

Create stories to last a lifetime with me

And in return, you can have all of me

Who am I?

I am a beautiful soul made of laughter and curiosity, dipped in melanin

I am a product of a smooth-talking man and a trusting goddess

I am a thousand years of oppression, nine months of planning, twenty-one years of searching, of learning, and four years of getting to know myself, love myself

I am hair that defies gravity the way the corners of my lips do when I’m happy

I am the nights I cried into my friends’ shoulders, thinking it would be my last

I am the days I spent with them, content and in control

I am my memories of driving downtown Chicago with my mother late at night on the weekends

I am my first heartbreak and the first funeral I was forced to miss

I am the fact that I cry when I listen to Lianne la Havas and eat when I’m stressed, bored, or hungry

I am 5 feet, 10 inches of love and support, romantic and platonic

And I am yours for the taking…if you’ll have me

I lean into you

The feel of my head pressed against your chest and your hands moving through my hair

I’ll tell you about my day as you wrap your arms around me

I’ll tell you my secrets as our stories mix together, until we can no longer tell whose experiences belong to who

I’ll fill you with life

I’ll be your joy, but allow you to find some in yourself

I’ll travel with you

I’ll learn with you

Create stories to last a lifetime with you

An in return, I will have all of you

Who are you?

About the Creator

Deanna Davenport

I am a passionate writer of really free verse poetry and prose. Mostly, I write what I feel or what comes to mind. Otherwise, it'll probably be a bunch of short stories that I come up with.
