Mission Failed

A Tender Heart Offered to the Devourer

Taken by me, Somewhere in Arizona

There was a time

When you'd have dropped

Everything

And anything

To help me

When my thoughts raced

So fast that my lungs did too

And the day

You sped off,

Pretending like I wasn't

1,000 feet above the ground

Crashing down

Into the pavement beside your car

That was the day I knew,

I didn't mean as much to you.

That was the day

It was all confirmed

You can go now,

Back to your rock.

To hide away,

Ignoring the clock.

I'm done now

Chasing what's been mangled

Jumbled,

Tangled,

Tossed away,

Like plastic

Washing up

In the bay

Killing the life around it

Suffocating the beauty

That once was so pure.

I'm tired of dreaming

Of a day I could rest

Nestled against your chest

Without feeling

My lungs contort.

This is a failed mission,

I think it's time to abort.
