Mile Twenty Thirteen

A Poem

Miles and miles and miles and

Sing-alongs on the radio,

Beach bound and wind tangled hair

But I’m eighteen with no time to care

And that sweet sensation of air

Pounding me into reality

Miles and miles and miles and

Chill mix playlists

Air conditioned breaths

Bug guts are wrong decisions

Big trucks are potential havoc

Miles and miles and miles and

Bath warm water flooded from the clouds

The music cut off

Tires were slipping, my love was gripping

the waterlogged highway, you.

I saw a picture in the lightening, it looked like you

Until I hauntingly heard the truth

When it thundered your absence at Mile 2013
