Migraine

A Poem

My head has a heart beat

I hear it pulsing in my ears like

the tempo of a base drum

The pain pulls at my eyes

like two elephants sitting on the optic nerves

ready to slip them back into my head

Glimpses of light through the shades

where the particles float like fairy dust

are blinding

I grit my teeth pushing back

the lump in my throat

that is brought with dreaded thoughts

Chapped bags beneath my eyes

where salty tears have worn

burn at my touch

How I yearn for sweet release

sad poetry
