Stage One:

I was a simple silkworm caterpillar.

You were the tree.

I came to you everyday

To devour the love you gave to me.

So deliciously gentle yet

ferociously carefree.

You were the tree.

My mistake was thinking that we were rooted

and I thought your roots ran deep.

You were the tree.

So when the storm slapped me hard.

I ran to you because I told myself I was weak.

Stage Two:

You shot bullets of betrayal up my spine and out my knees

so i spun a chrysalis and you smiled-

because you thought i fell asleep.

Here’s the plot twist- I spent time building myself.

Detoxification from your poisonous lies was much needed.

For the first time in a long time I was happy with me and just me

no one else.

You sliced my heart but I still grew so

listen to me carefully listen to me now.

I am done holding on to you.

Stage Three:

Tonight I’m breaking free.

I’m uncoiling from loving you.

Slowly but surely like falling asleep.

You won’t find me tomorrow, this is goodbye.

In the morning you’ll still be a tree

but I will be a beautiful butterfly.
