Mental Amnesia

Dissociation of Head and Heart

It’s funny how my body remembers you, yet

my mind wanders, searching for you.

Fingers trace the tracks of my spine, your

Palm in my palm, you pull me close, soft

Light conversation, banter tethered, feathery-

What were we talking about? my mind questions quizzically, now

closer, step by step

hand, fingers in my hair, lips

soft, but present, there, eyes

somehow, they’re nowhere, stars

seeing you no more

yet

you

are

felt. Nevertheless.

here, now,

then, how?

when? mind loud-

ly questions

too many.

While my body remembers clearly

the mind wonders quizzically,

How (when) did this all start?

Who is he?

What about the heart?

Don’t bother me.

None of that even matters.

We’re busy

consolidating latent memory.
