Memories

Why do we remember the things that most hurt us? Or maybe it’s the good times that become the most painful memories, when the one you love is gone.

In this park, in the woods

All my stomping grounds you took

I showed you my favourite places

The ones so close to me

And there we made our memories

All these places, once so sweet

Are no longer what they used to be

Because you’re missing

Now I have to push back all these memories

Of you and me

In this lot, in your car

How we never stayed too far

When it broke down you said to stay inside

You always kept me safe

And held me close when I cried

Down this street, through those doors

You and I were never bored

We walked and talked as the hours went by

Hanging onto each word

Living out our dreams that night

In my house, down those stairs

All those times that you sat there

The playful way you would catch my eye

After we talked things out

You had me so mesmerized

All these places, once so sweet

Are no longer what they used to be

Because you’re missing

And now I’m on my own

Walking through this park alone

I’m struggling to push back all these memories

Of you and me
