Memories

Of My Beloved

As memories of you flood my brain like the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, I sit here and wonder what could have been.

As memories of you fill my head like you fill the gas tank on a car, I think about all those 20-minute drives I took just to see you and be in your presence.

As memories of you race through my brain like an insomniac that's trying to calm her mind for a good night's rest, I think about all the good nights of us being together, whether it was on the phone or in our bed.

As my brain wanders off to space I see our past, the presents we exchanged and the future we no longer have together but then I come back down from the clouds back onto this place called Earth, just to realize they were just memories of the past, present, and future we should have shared together.
