The Transitions of Love

A photo I took with black and white film of shoes that called me to take a photo of their story.

And then we wondered what love meant

What it was

Did it exist

Was it big

Or was it small

Round

Square

Actually heart-shaped

Red

See cause when we were 5 love was

The red crayola that drew a crooked heart on a sheet of paper

Mom called it art

And when we were 10 love was

Our best friends

And then 13 14 15

Love was the class clown

The shy guy

Fly guy

My guy

Your guy, our guy, that guy

And then 18, 19, 20

Love was shit

Broken things

Lies and cheats

Not meaningful things

Love was

Love is

Love

But what is love

We see day-to-day

The high school sweet hearts who 40 years later still madly in love

Love is unforgiving in the most wonderful way

Bittersweet wine that stains your teeth

Art

Love is pain

Tears

Sweat

Passion

Courage

Character

Morals

Respect

Loyalty

Struggle

Love is struggle a fight to the finish that never comes because love never ends

It changes like fall leaves, spring colors

summer rings

And winter snow falls and love falls with

Because sometimes love is letting go

Love is knowing you deserve

Love deserves

Yes love deserves letting go

To to be set free by truth

Truth that love is not meant for love

Your love

But love will find love

Love is growth

Love is…

Who knows
