Me & Joe Strummer
Someone get us a ukulele over here...
me and Joe Strummer
are gonna write a protest song
about cardiovascular exploitation
and the capitalism that overthrew
true love
how nobody knows how to dig in
and feel and be
because everybody needs
to fill the checklist
of consumeristic greed
to pass the quiz of what Cosmo and GQ
have said that love should be
and how shapewear has become
both the uniform and the torture
of the fascist patriarchy
of this sexy new regime
and how zombie movies are really
anti-immigrant
but ought to be
about the narcissistic epidemic
eating hearts and minds
and how this of any time
is when we should be playing
in the streets
and our only way to free
is to be shameless in our love
as long as our hearts can take
starving on the front
and how human beings
aren't entertainment
even if we ourselves believe we are
and how beneath the grassroots
and below the underground
is the only path to true salvation
so you gotta stay humble
until it kills you
but also it's OK to be angry AF
with a world that has been overwritten
with what connection is
so that there's constant machination
to flow it in one way
and the first thing we ever felt
when the lights switched on
inside our heads
has become a dead emotion
that sits beyond our resurrection
so we're just gonna sing
how we don't want a revolution
going round and round
but an evolution and an anarchy
to break our hearts out of the system
of scorecard masturbation
and finally find emancipation
to. just. fucking. love.
