Me

You do not control me. I will not allow myself to be bound to you by the chain of memories that I cannot suppress. You are my prison and I will use my newfound freedom like an ax to sever the rope of oppression from my past. Rope, rope that hangs around my neck like a noose and tightens its hold every time I try to break loose.

You do not own me. I will not be the child who runs to you with open arms only to watch you turn away. I will not be the freed slave who, with nowhere else to go, chooses to remain. The willing slave who lets you beat me down with words that rend and tear at the flesh of my heart as a wolf tears with teeth and claws its prey. No, I will not be your slave.

You do no love me, not like I love you. And I let years pass by and learned to live with every lie that left your lips. They were beautiful concoctions, every word laced with the sweetest tasting poison you could conjure at the time. But i'm not prepared to die. I will not be your Juliette, or press the poison to my lips for you just to win the prize, because the prize is watching you walk away and that is a price i'm no longer willing to pay.
