Remember when we first saw the Matrix?
In awe of those bright green numbers floating down the screen.
It was so cool!
Well guess what?
We live there now.
Everybody glued to their phones.
Humanity lost in a series of ones and zeroes.
The ones piercing through our cold and dying hearts.
Handcuffed by the zeroes to this virtual reality.
Making great use of these opposable thumbs.
Posting and tweeting and texting.
Mastering a new language made up of pictures and abbreviations.
I don’t think we’re capable of writing any more.
Do children even know how to hold pencils?
A whole world of people at our fingertips, yet we still fail to communicate.
We live and we die by the code.
Every interaction controlled and written in code.
Control alt delete to reset.
Can we control c the past,
And control v happier times?
When things were more simple.
When people were content to just enjoy each other’s company.
We could sit face to face and spend quality time.
Playing games and making up songs.
What happened to us?
We feared a robot takeover,
But we’ve become the very thing that we feared.
Our lives dictated by gears and chips.
Slaves to our technology.
How else can we exist?
