Maternal Love
My final a-level poetry piece.
The earth swallowed you the day you were born,
it cradled you with its tree trunk arms,
wrapped you in rivers laced with gold. From two years old you pranced beneath fog.
Made the sun shine through the cracks of our home
I watched as you consumed the cosmosYour laugh bounced on the walls, turned heads,
The sun and moon begged to be your friend.
Eyes shining, you put the stars to bed.I contemplate the constellations that formed you.
How could i, so small of a being, produce you -
the light of my existence.
I watch as you mature,
like the soil beneath your fingernails.
The lightning never rips your blossom. The day you announced,
That a new planet was growing within you-
the sun cradled my smile. It took me to the dreary ward,
Stern faces yearning for me to push, when I did,
the earth gave me you. You grasped mother nature in your hands,
you lived with the earth, danced in it, laughed in it
you transformed my wrong to right.
You smiled when mountains loomed over you,
Bit into sour fruit when it was thrown at you
You lit my life when I was giving up.
I know that you will be a great mother,
watch your daughter as I watched you,
allow the earth to cradle her.Let her swallow the stars,
drink the rivers.
Befriend anybody.Watch as she grows, fluctuates, changes.
Love her when she erupts like volcanoes.
Admire her when she dances beneath storms.
The day you were born,
I cradled you with my tree trunk arms,
Wrapped you in sheets laced with gold.
The earth kissed your cheek,
and you owned it.
I admire and love you always.
