Mask

A Poem About a Personal Occurrence

Determined.

I walk in the crowds.

I begin to round the corner,

And there you stand.

Coffee cup in hand,

Sunglasses on,

Jeans cuffed.

Entranced in a screen.

You begin to walk,

I follow.

Open the way,

Let me pass,

You follow.

I lead us,

Take an unexpected turn.

I look to you,

You smile, and continue on the old route,

I’m alone.

I didn’t think,

And now you’re gone.

I go to the old route.

Where are you?

But there’s too many people,

Too many faces.

I’ve never seen you without your mask.

You’re here,

But I’ll never find you.

Then again,

You were just a stranger to me.
