Mankind's Horizon

A Flawed Outlook

In this world walks a species of fools.

One by one destroying all their invaluable tools, and turning into insensible ghouls

This species name is man.

Once there was a glow of light that blanketed the sky.

A light thought never to die.

A light that emitted from the eyes of man

A light that created a path to the promise land

A light that gently rested in the hands of man

A light where nothing but solemn bliss reside

Truly hope resonated in the hearts of man.

A peaceful hopeful sinless light that shined night and day

In this light where all the dreams and future successes of humanity

Their hope, will, and hearts intertwined in utter harmony.

This light was known as mankind’s horizon.

A horizon created by the eyes of man looking out onto the future.

This took shape as one of humanity most beautiful features.

But after mankind grew in technology and power

Something had changed in the once pure eyes of man.

Their hunger for greater achievements began to devour them in times waking hour.

Suddenly all their ambition and promise faded away.

Disappearing like that of a shadow shifting in the light of day.

Mans greed soon consumed him and all he wanted was more money.

More power more women more land more buildings with his name on them.

Crushing dreams and family’s on his dollars whim.

Disconnected from his soul which has grown cold and dim

Now the same eyes once again look out.

Only to realize that their horizon has changed

Now it has no path the light is dim and only hell awaits in the end.

This same horizon created by the very eyes that once created peace.

This same horizon believed to save mankind from their selves.

It now sits in the back of history’s shelves.

They still look now in sorrow.

Crying we the fools who willingly threw away our tomorrows.

I to look to the sky wondering why
