Malfunction

A Breakdown from the Inside Out

“Do you want to see me broken?”

My soul calls this question to attention

It sings it in the vibrato of my voice

when my eyes leak the essence of my heart.

It demands it in every breath caught between the hysterics and

in every heave of my body until it creates a cadence of sorrow.

My primary purpose to assist others,

falling victim to self-neglect.

Affliction is the error

and the ingestion of cruelty

in return for kindness is the cause.

My soul overworks my heart

until the pump malfunctions and the emotions detonate.

My frame gives in to the collapse

and shut down is the cure.

I am a shell of my humanity and remorse

is a fable to me.

The shackles of sentiment have been removed

And I am a prisoner finally seeing the cold light of life.
