Lying to Myself

A Poem

I waited for you, but you didn't show

I pretended, I didn't know

I sat there waiting as the clouds rolled by

As the sun fell from the sky

I told myself, now please don't cry

It didn't matter how long I waited

Would've sat there 'til old and dated

Daydreaming of days, when I felt sedated

In your arms, no place I'd rather be

Holding your hand on the sands of the sea

Where the waves and gulls chimed happily

How I wish for days of past

Wish I wouldn't have lied to myself, that this would last

Now as the sun fades and the moon does rise

I have come harshly to realize

That I've got to stop waiting and move on

Because yesterdays are truly gone.
