Lucy

A Poem

Run from the gods she whispered

as we dissolved ourselves in ecstasy and the mystic black nights of Tennessee.

I am afraid I whispered back as the shadow enveloped me.

Her name was Lucy she had every characteristic of a girl who never knew her father.

She didn't tell me that, I just assumed.

When she would talk a cloud of empathy would leave her mouth.

Whatever problem you may have before she speaks, you would forget.

If you got so close as to touch her she would make you feel the kind of lust that turns a born player into a faithful man.

The kind of lust that cuts and draws its teeth down into a cuffed hand

She leaned in close and I saw Jupiter within her eyes.

Stormy weather, and the opposite of honesty but not necessarily lies.

I took her hand and asked what it meant to be alive.

She showed me things about the world that made me never want to die

and she promised me I wouldn't

so long as I stay at her side.

So we ran from heaven and from death

and from what was right.

I bought a ring and Asked her Lucy now will you be my wife.

She responded with a smile and said finally I've been waiting my whole life.

Little did I know that the magnetic passion that brought us so close so fast

Was shifting poles and Lucy would fall so far from my grasp...

Sometimes expectation brings reality back from vacation

To a cold home full of false idols
