The lucky country, or so we have believed,
between you and I, my friend,
we have been greatly deceived,
No judgement, they tell us,
together we can be great,
living in harmony together
where your neighbour is your mate,
"teach your children tolerance, equality
respect, and display these values every day,
teach your kids well 'cause
that's the Australian way,"
Not so lucky when our population
is allowed to decide,
when or if a man or woman
can be a groom or bride,
How sad I was to receive a letter,
attached to it a little note,
explaining if your voice is to be heard,
you must send back your vote,
How dare we have a right to an opinion,
and allow our people to judge, and
how disappointing to see ads on TV,
segregating innocent people,
throwing at them dirt, soot, and sludge,
and what do I tell my children
when at school they go to play?
that their friends with two mums or two dads are
not allowed to get married,
why, Mum? it's because they are GAY,
now how can that be just
and how can that be fair?
oh, that's right, our government
just can't make decisions, or is it that
they simply just don't care?
if two people are in love and want
to join together to say I do,
at the end of the day that is their business
and has nothing to do with me or you.
