Lower Case Letters

A Poem

my life has become a series of lower case letters;

a jaded lack of spark, my passion fettered.

my sentences leak,

neverending marathons of tired characters

and bored unspeakables

trudging along grey lines, equal

in their monotony.

it's hard to write when you feel as though you have nothing to say

you strip your words of their office

gift them a new deniability,

their status lowered and inoffensive,

saying don't mind me, i'm harmless.

no Announcement of Impeccable Grammar,

no EXPLOSION of passion,

no hint of a stammer.

caught in our rigid lines of rhyme,

and time,

sublime

prime

lime

Capitals Compensate For This Crime.

but maybe we have the poetry,

we strip theirs of decoration.

perhaps words simply are,

and we know to leave them be,

our letters unfetter'd.
