Loving You Is Like the Rain

I hope you enjoy watching me drown in it.

You know that feeling you get when it starts to rain

A sudden shock followed by comfort

Pull on a jacket

Get warm and cozy

Read a book

Drink some tea

While you listen to the repetitious pitter-patter on your window

But then as you go outside

The story changes

You are quick to put up an umbrella

A border between you and the unwanted

Shielding yourself from becoming overly saturated

There is now too much at once

You are overwhelmed by it

It was nice to look at from afar

But now you are forced to be among the rain

Which does not feel as pretty as it sounds

The rain is like my love for you

It started out with a few drops here and there

But out of nowhere crashed down

An immense amount of love

But it is just unrequited

Love being wasted just for you

Not even a glimmer of appreciation is shown

You hide from it under your umbrella

Not sure if you want to feel it

Shaking and startled

But I dance in it

So soaking with liquid love I cannot bring myself to stop

No time to think anything through

Feelings get deeper and deeper

And you just back farther and farther out of the rain

You will never know how my love is like the rain

Constantly denying the rain a chance

Too scared to let even one drop fall upon your cheek

You will never know how hard, how long this rain has poured down for you

Loving you is like a storm

But instead of falling from the sky

The rain pours down from my eyes

heartbreak
