Lovers

You were my first love,

you held me like no other,

blanketed me with sky,

soothed me to sleep

in violet moonlight,

and told me we were spinning

through the stars

You were my first love

you kissed me with

crystal water and

whispered your faithfulness

over flooded rocks,

even the trees stood, rooted

and drank your beauty

You were my first love

you called me through your birds,

your sun knew how to

find my bones

when I had forgotten

I was made of flesh

You were my first love

and I breathed you in,

sharp air that fuelled my joy

and fed my creativity

You were my first love

wild oceans licking blue sky,

green grass the backdrop

for flowers that pulsed

their own colours

You were my first love

I had forgotten

striving, driving

out of my heart

alone in my head

I am coming back to claim you

for you never left
