Love's Masquerade

A Poem

My faith in love of the romantic kind...

Has so far through this life made me wish I was blind.

Towards the passionate fire that burns so intense...

Within my red blood that flows so very immense.

The amorous dreams that relentlessly live on in my untrusting mind...

Remain a tie of painful thorns which I cannot unbind.

As the vines of questions and doubts entwine.

I wonder if Love was ever really mine.

Is it just my version of Love is so very pure...

That it does not exist in another as I really am not sure.

Is there a soul out there who lives a truth inside...

Who can look you in the eye and make you believe with pride.

In the dreams that you share, that you build as your own.

In the emptiness that can fill you when you are alone.

In the love that is made long after the lust fades...

Is there a heart out there like mine within Loves masquerade.

Do not take my hand unless you grip it so tight.

Do not dare to say you Love me if you are not willing to fight.

Do not speak to me words of passion if your actions say otherwise.

Do not dare to promise me truth because I can feel your lies.

There are millions of beautiful people whose looks will fade.

Who will realise one day the mistakes that they have made.

By not searching for the real beauty that which burns deep within the truth.

Where the broken hearted remain in the knowing as the proof.

They will sleep unhappy in beds that are frustratingly made.

They will one day find a cost that is too high to ever be paid.

So they will dance from Lover to Lover at every available promenade...

With their intentions unclear and insincere in Loves Masquerade.

I choose to stay away from the bright lights and glitz of the ball.

For when I am caught by a spark I am vulnerable to the greatest fall.

For I am a soul of no half measures and deeper than any abyss.

I cannot help but have enduring faith in Love and the wonder it still is.

But to have faith in another is where I now feel again estranged.

For through the emotional storm I’ve weathered so much has changed.

The Prince has turned Nomad is now wondering but will never stay.

For under every beautiful mask reveals ugly in Love's Masquerade.
