Broken hearts can kill.
They can make the good go bad.
They make the life of an innocent be taken away.
When too much is given and nothing is returned,
it can be enough for someone to self destruct.
Nothing seems to hurt more than the aching pain of the one that got away.
Nothing seems to fill you with more regret
than remembering the last conversation you had.
As your memories play over and over in your head,
infectious tears roll silently down your face.
Heartbreak is a disease that starts in the brain.
It tells you you'll always be alone,
that no one else will ever want you.
It spreads to your heart where it grips it tight.
It's puncturing nails that feel like daggers dig deeper and deeper inside.
The pain suffocates you,
making every breath feel like you're inhaling razor blades.
Each breath shorter and shorter until you finally hold your breath,
desperate for some kind of relief.
The darkness sets in and you lock yourself up and shut everyone out.
You cry alone in the corner thinking there isn't anyone
who cares if you feel like you're going to die.
Broken promises break you like your body is made of glass.
Trying to pick up the pieces,
but always knowing you'll never be whole again.
Broken hearts can kill making the strong weak.
Making the innocent corrupt,
making the sane slowly go insane.
Bone shattering anguish swallows you whole.
Tears of fire stain your cheeks red.
A soldier in a war against yourself,
you fight...
Fight for that hope of seeing that one last speck of light.
Hope is fleeting and your life slips right through your fingers.
Blindly searching for an escape,
you become tapped in your destructive fate.
Because that is how it feels to have your heart break.
