Love Like Winter

His words were sweeter than honey, like fire, they warmed me within.

We had a love like no other

of that I can be sure,

I'll tell you how it came about

and what happened long before.

His words were sweeter than honey

like fire, they warmed me within,

sooner in time I believed him

those words which became his sin.

His touch was gentle and soft

his eyes like emeralds green,

his voice was strong like thunder

the most handsome I'd ever seen.

This was part of the masquerade

for the creature which dwelled inside,

was just waiting for opportunity

until then, his true colours hide.

As time passed he started waning

his sweet nothings turned something sour,

his mask has begun to falter

and his efforts withered like flowers.

Desperately, I clung to the threads

and tried hard to rekindle the flame,

but in the end truth be told

for I was not to blame.

Once it felt warm and bright

but it soon turned frail and old,

it was indeed a love like winter

for winter is lifeless and cold.
