Love Butter

You never saw me coming.

The silky texture of my smoldering touch,

dissolved within your weathered skin and left a mark,

the sought after addiction you still whisper in your sleep,

is the same tradition you spread across her lips while she wears my smile.

I never saw you coming.

The lingering sadness of leaving you behind rendered me breathless,

and an infinite amount of sighs between intimate glances with strangers,

could never suppress the loud howl of your memory as it resurfaces to keep me company,

reminding me of the misery I'd forgotten to sprinkle on top of your favorite dessert.

We never saw it coming.

This whirlwind romance of growing pains and cold goodbyes,

used the frequent waves of wanderlust we held for erupting volcanoes and sultry storms,

and created a lethal dose of love butter every time we fell back into masochistic habits.
