I knew exactly what Love looked like when I was five, he had dark hair and a cute smile, played basketball, and held hands with me at the zoo. But Love moved away and I got over it in a few days.

I knew exactly what Love looked like when I was 11. He was tall, lanky, and Love knew how to play all the old songs I liked on the guitar. But Love found a new love, and we don’t really know each other anymore.

I knew exactly what Love looked like when I was 15, he had glasses and made bad jokes that made me laugh. Love and I met on a family vacation, and lived 900 miles apart. Love called me every night and he took a plane to come to my prom. Love grew impatient, jealous, and angry when college came around. Long distance became too hard for Love.

I knew exactly what Love looked like when I was 18, he was tall, stocky, and had bright blue eyes that glazed over when I talked too much. Love liked to leave when he was mad, and come back weeks later with an apology. Love asked me to marry him and I laughed in his face. Love hurt me one time too many, and then Love left again.

Love came back a few months later, this time he had dimples and his eyes changed colors with the weather. He was older, happier, and softer, Love was mine for a while, but could never quite commit. Love met someone more stable. “Our timing was never right.” I suppose it’s true. Love always tries to come back when his love is out of town.

I knew exactly what Love looked like when I was 20. Love took me camping, was a know-it-all and called my grandma once a week. Love was reliable, but I wasn’t happy with Love. Love would never call me “Love.” I don’t call him Love anymore, instead I call him a good friend.

This time Love came back looking different. I never thought Love could be so small with such long hair. Love has the most perfect eyes and Loves’ smile makes the world shine. Loves’ laugh pulls me out of my depression. Loves’ kisses turn me on like no other. Love sings with me in the car. Love sleeps with a loud fan that makes me steal all the blankets in the middle of the night, but I wouldn’t want to sleep next to anyone else. I finally found a forever and she is all mine.

I love you babygirl.
