Lost

A Poem About a Lost Connection

Though by blood we are bound

and the likeness of our line

and our ancestors lay side-by-side

in the ground,

their lives in etched stone enshrined.

Though in my earliest years

I walked alongside your shadow,

a companion at waist-height

to be held dear

and to the world to show

proudly, as though

I were not a child, but a promise

to Earth, that I should grow

and become what you would not,

could not,

A queen, a Goddess

The muse of Adonis,

born of the sea

Or a daughter of darkness

Wed to the trees

Or a simple child of mankind,

womankind,

Without a great destiny,

but simply to be, and to be happy.

Though all these things are true,

or were once, still it seems

that as Time has made His mark

upon you,

He has torn us at the seams.

So I bid you farewell, and declare me lost

Or perhaps just seeking a new path,

without you and what it would cost

to erase our bond's epitaph.
