So silent, where before, I heard your voice.
So dark, where before, I felt your light, your warmth.
So empty, where before, my heart was full of love both given and received.
But it’s gone,
Along with you.
We laughed a lot and sang,
Told stories and shared gossip,
And shared the beauty of life with one another,
The sounds, the lights, the peace.
But all that’s left are memories,
The remnants of the times we’ve shared.
The rest is gone,
Along with you.
Some people claim that you can have anything you wish,
As long as you desire it strong enough,
But they’re wrong.
No matter how many tears I shed,
No matter how much I want to hear your voice again,
You’ll still be gone.
Now, I hear the rustle of the wind through trees that reach gnarled branches to the sky.
Now, I see the colours of flowers, the green of grass, the greys, and blacks, and reds of monuments,
Lined up, the dominoes of histories.
But you’re still gone,
And I have to figure out how to remain.
