Look Out Your Window

See the world.

I looked out my window and saw,

An old man playing with a child.

He seemed happy to me,

But I could not tell.

Did he want to play with this small child

Or was he forced to

By a family or friend?

I could not tell.

Then a boy came by on a bike.

He fell off and started to cry,

Or was he laughing at his foolish mistake?

I could not tell.

Then came a dog chasing a car.

He was barking as he chased the car.

Was he barking for the joy of the chase

Or because he hated cars?

I could not tell.

I could not tell

Because I was deaf.

I could not tell if a man was happy or sad

By the sound of his voice

Or if a dog was happy

By the sound of his barks.

My eyes were my windows.

Perhaps ears are a blind man's windows.
