Look Around

Planetary Disappointment

A modest look around

An innocent bystander perceives

The irreversible damage we’ve done.

While we act as though we’re shocked

Our integrity is docked

Because those that killed our earth is us

An irrefutable gift

Though the “from” tag is left blank

We constantly take from this gift

While we do

We take it for granted

Disregarding our disrespect

This gift still provides

Originally an unblemished temple

Of blue and green

Instead of giving back

We’ve ruined her

Now imperfect

Of brown and black

An urge to take back

All that we’ve done

Or a yearning

To compensate

For the unpayable debt

That no one did

A sincere apology

For generations to come

How we couldn’t appreciate

What was given to us

The permanent infliction

On our world

Forever a retrospection

Never forgotten

Yet always disregarded

We sit and we watch

As our earth withers to dust

Soon away with the gust

In the wind that will no longer blow

Open your eyes, not your wallets

Stop funding our demise

Stop paying for our extinction

Our world is dying

And you continue to look away

And unleash

Yet another can of hairspray

Our ozone is thin

But our chances are thinner

The possibility of surviving another century

Is crumbling with our earth

So

What are you going to do about it?
