Living in Your Head

This poem is about thinking outside of the box. It is also about holding onto past feelings and not moving on towards the future.

We will now return to your regularly scheduled programming.

Turn all devices to mute before entering the theater.

Exit using the designated areas to your right.

We are wired with a set list of rules and instructions.

I choose to look outside of this box.

I am bad at following rules that I do not agree with.

I am a leader, not a follower.

We can observe the living.

We can observe the dead.

We can fight with ourselves.

We can battle those we see as a threat.

We can let our jealously destroy us.

We can live in our head and come up with ridiculous scenarios that will leave others puzzled.

Scenarios that only make sense in our mind.

Get out of your head.

Stop living in a place with no logic,

Where mental health gets the best of you.

Mental health plagues our minds.

It robs us of healthy interactions with others.

It makes us paranoid and untrusting.

It also makes certain women instant enemies.

I turned left on Zero St and passed the old abandon church.

What used to be a gorgeous architectural landmark was now a shell of the building that it once was.

I went into and sat on the old wooden pews.

This place looks much different now that it did years ago.

This is not the same place that is alive in my memories.

It even feels different.

The stained glass windows are broken out.

This place is in ruins, and no one will find salvation here.

The eyes are a window to the soul.

What we experience through them stays locked into our memories.

We can choose to let go and move on,

Or we can choose to hang on to the past and let it destroy our future.

We will now return to your regularly scheduled programming.

The map is constantly changing in this life.

I am not a robot.

I cannot be programmed.

It’s hard to see the forest from the trees.

When you are living in your head.
