Living in Our Virtual Reality
A Poem About Living Amongst Social Media
We live in a virtual reality,
The lines between our online indentity
and our personality lack clarity
We Swipe right, swipe left.
It's a movement bereft of connection,
A swift rejection.
Replay, react
Maintain minimal contact.
Stories on Snapchat,
Not talking, don't do that.
Emojis, emotionless.
LOL, she says straight-faced.
Filtered selfies, our faces replaced.
Change the filter, slim your face.
Not that picture, hair out of place.
Live your best life,
Not the real one.
Don't share the truth, only show the fun.
Get a meal, take a photo.
Live a little, tweet about it though.
It's not official,
If it's not on Facebook.
All friendships now artificial.
We don't remember, but time hop does.
A new relationship, Facebook is abuzz.
We do something healthy,
So we take a selfie.
We post about doing good,
But we don't do all that we could.
"One like equals one prayer."
Understand if we want real change,
Our virtual world won't get us there.
