Little Bird

A Poem About Finding Yourself

I hear the bird chirping

Outside my window,

"Hello, little bird,

Don't fly away!"

Fly away, little bird,

But please take me with you,

For it is not here

I long to stay.

I long to be the bird

Outside my window,

Free and beautiful

As the sky above.

I ache to be free

Please, little bird, help me;

I long to spread my wings

And touch the stars above!

But I don't know how,

I'm scared, little bird,

I'm afraid of what I'll find

Beyond these walls.

Please show me how,

Please teach me, little bird,

I long to do new things

Although I'm terrified now.

But I can do it,

I know it, little bird,

I just simply need

To have faith in me.

Together we'll fly high!

We'll see the world, little bird,

And then one day

They'll all look up and see.

They'll look to the sky

And see us there, little bird,

And they'll look at each other

And smile and say,

"I knew she could do it!

Thank you, little bird,

For helping my girl

Become the woman I see!"
