Like Candy

A JH Poem

My mind makes life a candy store.

Hungry for the sweetest thing in every waking moment.

They say it’s how my brain is wired.

I lived long enough to know better than that.

There’s nothing wrong with liking your favorite flavor.

But we get force-fed our flavors every day.

We can find them instantly with a google search.

This ease is what made my craving so strong.

I wish I didn’t need my daily dose.

That I preferred something more nutritious.

Something better for my heart and brain.

I wish I didn’t see them this way.

Constantly looking like they’re bright neon signs.

I wish I never liked candy at all.
