'Like a Girl' Poem

Words from the advert that inspired this poem

You throw like a girl, you run like a girl,

words you can't get away from.

You scream like a girl, you fight like a girl,

giving them the impression you are not strong.

You wear a dress that shows too much leg,

they see that as an invitation to get you into bed.

They are given high fives if they can knock more than one,

while you are branded a slut if the same thing is done.

You are seen as weak and fragile, unable to take a punch,

while men have all the power and strength, thanks a bunch.

You are belittled every day,

as they slowly take your capabilities away.

Why can’t we be rid of the typical stereotypes?

And instead be given the opportunity to reach new heights.

You don't throw like a girl, you throw like you,

and that's all you ever wanted to do.
