A Poem Written In High School that Still Speaks to Me Today
There’s more to life than these four years
Self-identity does not come from letter grades
or teachers' approvals
Nobody is in charge of your happiness but you
You are you
Yesterday
Today
And Tomorrow
Why compare to who you will never be
Instead of embodying the unparalleled
Specimen that is you
Time is fleeting
Endlessly unraveling
Changing like the tides
Youth does not last forever
Live in the moment
They are temporary
As are all the tribulations I’ll
Overcome
Limitations are not permanent
Expectations are not law
Life is but an expedition
And it is all just beginning

Absence
At times I feel as if I’m absent from my own life. Time ticks away and the quick glances in the mirror make me realize I’m no longer the little girl I used to be, yet I cannot pinpoint when this change began to occur. I’m absent but the world around me changes and evolves, I am absent yet my parents grow old and the people around me are vanishing. It is as if my world is a classroom and I have not been marked present; I’m on the outside looking in, and I have no control of it all. Everything is happening too fast, the rapid movements leaves me feeling disoriented and I need to step out. But, I cannot spend my days avoiding my own reality. I cannot be too absent, because if I am, I’ll miss the moments I should have cherished and I’ll never be able to get them back.

Faedaze
Daisy leaned back against the wall of the window bench, the dress she was embroidering on falling to her lap, all but forgotten. Her gaze rested on the trees just beyond the edge of her garden, watching with dreamlike expression on her face, waiting for something others doubted would ever come.
