Lies

A Poem

What

we believe

is what really matters –

even if

we believe in lies.

Because

we live what we believe –

even if

we believe in lies.

And when

we believe in lies,

we lie

to our families,

to our friends,

to ourselves.

They say

the best actors

are the best liars,

but

how good of an actor do you have to be to lie to yourself?

To convince

yourself

you’re something

you’re not;

to know

who you are

but not act like it?

That –

that takes talent.

To fool not only the world around you but the deepest parts of your soul –

and you wonder

why

you’re so alone

why

you do not have

peace

or freedom.

Just lies.

About the Creator

Samantha De Yarman

They’re just words

I’m arranging in an order

And yet somehow

Nothing else is harder.
