Liar

A poem about a friend who was most likely a sociopath

You told everyone you met that you loved snails

I loved that you loved

snails

I convinced you to buy a small terrarium

to save a few from their inevitable demise from a college student walking in late at night

*crrrrkk*

I made the sound of their shell crunching

We drove to Petco

You liked the idea of snails

more than the

snails themselves

You liked the idea of touching

more than touching

her

You liked the idea of her want

more than you wanted

her

You chose

to protect yourself

rather than

the weighty heirloom

of truth

You didn't tend to the snails

some died

you let them go
