Letters Between the Stars and the Sea

Dear Deep Sea Diver

PART 1

Dear Deep Sea Diver,

I have never been to the ocean.

I have never touched the water.

Shocking, I know.

I have seen it though.

It looks like the deepest emotion.

As still as the greatest commotion.

An emotion that you have to reach to the deepest parts of your soul;

To stretch your arms and mend the hole.

But you know all about the sea.

How do I explain,

Something not so plain

As nothingness that goes on forever.

Somewhere where you float around, up and down; Falling forever with a lack of direction, lighter than a feather.

How do I explain something,

In which you can neither hear, smell, taste, nor touch to the point your own heart beat is numbing.

But how do I explain that sight is all you need,

To make your heart bleed.

While drifting around for eternity,

You learn to listen carefully.

For I have been to vast territories.

If you wait, universes will whisper their stories.

All it takes is someone who believes their claims,

And stars will sing their names.

Planets yet discovered.

I don't know how to explain such wonder.

How could I want fun

When I have sat on the moon and reflected the sun.

It may revolve around the Earth.

But have you ever seen a star birthed?

While I may not know what it feels like to have your feet in the sand,

How do I explain that you don't need land.

Although you are so grounded,

This kind of freedom is astounded.

But how do I explain,

Even with all these magnificent things.

It all brings a hint of pain,

A little bit plain.

For what's the point of all these stories with no one to be told?

Although I have seen the shining of light so gold,

What a sight to behold,

The memory runs a tad cold.

So while you're so down to Earth,

And I'm up in the stars;

Show me the sea,

And I'll take you to mars.

PART 2

My dear, lovely Moon-Walker, Gazer of the Stars,

You reside in your beauty, loftier than Earth's bars.

How I wish that I could see the cosmos through your eyes,

How I wish to join you, in space, by your side.

But I invite you to my world to see all I hold dear,

To explore the depths of this universe,

Earth's local frontier.

I ebb with the waves and flow with the tide,

The coral gives me a place where I can hide.

Here I have peace, my Walker of Night,

In the seabed's wonders, I take delight.

I live for the flowing of aqua so bright,

In the land of crystal beauty, I awe at its might.

Can you see my blue home,

Out there past the sky?

Could you see me from the ocean,

Waving as you soared by?

Can you hear me, dear Sun-Surfer,

Calling your name?

Can you see my aquamarine,

Searching for your flame?

The deep blue is awe-inspiring,

With its life and peaceful breath,

It invites all to rest by its side,

To be renewed and refreshed.

So, Galaxy-Walker, what do you say?

Would you come and visit, if just for a day?

Wherever you roam, I'm connected to you,

By the light of our friend, the Beautiful Moon.

Rush to my side, join me here,

Then I shall fly to yours, without doubt or fear.

For I'm so down to Earth, and you're up in the stars.

So my dear,

I will show you the sea,

And you'll take me to Mars.
