Letter to the Moon

Dear moon, do not fright

It must be scary

Being up there, so high

But you are safe

You will never fall,

For you are meant to

Circle, circle, circle the earth

For all of time.

Oh moon, do not cry

You must be sad

Being so alone up there

With nothing to do

But stare down at us, on this

Blue, blue, blue Earth

So beautiful, wishing you could but

Touch, feel, meet, know, anything.

Poor moon, do not fight

For you are safe up there

Locked into an endless

Fall, fall, fall towards the Earth

Always pulled in, yet pushed

Always moving, yet going nowhere

Never reaching your destination

Never meeting who you’ve always adored.

Please moon, do not flight

Despite all the green you see

You cannot leave, you are forever

Stuck, stuck, stuck in his orbit.

Meant to look, not touch

See, not feel

Find, not discover

Know, but never love.

Sincerely, an admirer.
